The international casino market has entered a full-scale rebound phase following the pandemic. According to recently released quarterly performance reports from major Asian casino hubs, casino revenue in key cities, including Macau, has risen by approximately 15% compared to the same period last year, indicating a rapid recovery to pre-COVID-19 levels.
Changes in the Asian Casino Market
Recently, the Macau government has been moving away from a profit structure centered on gaming and is significantly strengthening investments in non-gaming sectors such as conventions, arts, and sports. This is a strategy to improve the industry's constitution beyond simple gambling into a tourism industry based on integrated resorts. In Singapore, large-scale integrated resorts like Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa serve as key hubs for attracting tourists and contribute significantly to national economic growth. The Philippines has also joined the competition for Asian casino hubs by expanding foreign investment, centered on the Manila Entertainment City. These phenomena demonstrate that Asian nations now recognize casinos as core infrastructure for the tourism industry rather than mere gambling businesses.
